I was only 3 when I watched President Kennedy's funeral and the most vivid image I have is of Black Jack prancing around acting impatient with the whole thing. I was facinated with the riderless horse with the boots in backwards. Black Jack was definitely a big part of my lifelong love of horses.

So many of us just don't know how lovingly important Black Jack and his fellow Caparisoned brothers are. To know this about Black Jack, alone, is very poignant and important to us. What a wonderful story and thank you for sharing it with the rest of us. I was in high school in Texas and they sent us all home after the president was murdered. Kids were stunned and some were crying. I remember my family watching television and I was mesmerized and wondered how this could happen. I remember the big black horse prancing and to me it has been unforgettable in the 50 years since it happened. I am very pleased he had a good life and rests in a place of honor at Fort Meyer. All of the war horses gave their all, and the military needs to honor them for their service. In this case, well done.

I was 13, living in Silver Spring, MD, when Kennedy was assassinated and remember watching the funeral procession and the spirited horse following the caisson. Thank you for telling his story.

What a beautiful story! Thank you. I was 15yrs old when our President Kennedy was killed, and having a horse of my own, was so touch by Black Jack in the funeral procession. I still cry when I see the pictures. I know Mrs Kennedy was also touched. Thank you again.

The picture that says "Black Jack-with his famous white star" is not Black Jack. The horse is Omar and the funeral that he is walking is for General Alexander Haige in 2010.
